On the Block with You!
by Doug Logan
President & Founder of OTB Collective
The inner-city is a place of great problems, pressures, and poverty. And for those in gospel ministry who serve in America’s inner-cities like; Detroit, Chicago, Newark NJ, Brooklyn and my city Camden NJ, we can feel much like a lone prophet on an island of remonstrates.
The On The Block Collective blog is designed to be a letter in a bottle to different islands (inner-cities) for ministry leaders, pastors, and all who feel isolated and alone in their city. Simply put; you are not alone. We at On the Block Collective desire to publish informational resources to help under-resourced pastors and ministry leaders who seemingly lack relevant and necessary resources.
OTB Blog will seek to deal with current and systemic issues that stymy the optimal advancement of the gospel to the least, last, and the lost. The inner-city and urban contexts are both complex sociologically and relationally intricate. Complex in that there are in many unidentified norms and foundational realities that have been ignored and wrongly defined.
Secondly, the racial, social, and financial, diversity of the inner-city culminates in a mélange of difficulty as it pertains to connecting with people on a relationship level. These challenges can make it harder to get into to the life of the neighborhood and missionally engage it in real-time and in a real-life manner.
Therefore, by God’s grace, I have assembled a team of godly, Christ-centered, gospel-driven, Holy Ghost filled bloggers. This team is made up of a diverse group of men and women that are urban practitioners from a variety of races. All of which are culturally engaged in the inner-city/urban life in their ministry context. It is my earnest desire that these men and women through sound doctrine, thorough cultural exegesis, and researched statistical data, speak to the issues that plague the world with their prophetic voices.
The OTB page and particularly our blog will serve alongside ministry leaders from a variety of context but primarily inner-city/urban areas. We will seek to intellectually and biblically engage the core cultural concerns of inner-city communities. From systemic racism to missionally engaging Hebrew-Israelites on your block.
It is my vision for the OTB Blog to be a consistent resource, encouragement, and a glass of cultural-engaging water for those thirsty to be more effective leaders in their respective cities. The blog coupled with our podcast “The Stoop”; where we will interview people like Dr. Carl Ellis and Dr. Eric Mason to name a few will serve you, the inner-city church leader. Overall it is our hope and vision that all the resources on our page will help and bless you as you dive in regularly to the smorgasbord of inner-city thinkers and practitioners for the purposes of growing as a leader in your city.
